Troup County offers an array of campgrounds with RV hookups that cater to every kind of traveler—from rugged nature lovers to those who prefer a few extra comforts.
Holiday Campground offers 112 campsites and two group camping areas, including electric and non-electric areas, tent-only sites, and group sites. This campground is group-friendly, family-friendly, and offers several amenities such as a boat launch, public restrooms, and on-site grilling areas.
At Whitetail Ridge Campground, there are 58 sites with electric and water hookups, laundry facilities, and hot showers. This campground is waterfront on the western shore of West Point Lake, and is open seasonally from March to November.
In West Point, R. Shaefer Heard Campground has 117 sites complete with electric and water hookups. Amenities here include a dump station, coin laundry, hot showers, a boat ramp, hiking trails, and a playground—perfect for families traveling with children.
Adventure Awaits!
During your adventure on West Point Lake, be sure to check out the trails surrounding the lake, and fully immerse yourself in nature! The Lakeside Trails at West Point Lake cover eleven miles of terrain alongside the lake, offering several scenic spots to rest and take in waterside views. While mostly smooth, some areas of the trail have sharp turns and roots, so stay alert. Although the trail is a lengthy eleven miles, there are several segments of the trail that are marked and labeled as easiest, more difficult, most difficult, and hiking only. Hikers should note that these trails are designated for use by mountain bikers and equestrian as well, and riders have the right of way. Riders should be conscious of hikers on the trail, and always pass in a courteous manner.
The West Point Lakeside Loop is a side trail off of the Lakeside Trail, and it’s a good option for beginner hikers. It is only a 0.9 mile long trail and takes about 20 minutes to complete. If you’re more of an intermediate hiker, Alligator Creek Nature trail might be a good contender for you, as the hike is about 2.5 miles and perfect for a quick hour-long hike alongside the beautiful water. The Adventure Jam Trail and Hack-n-Yack trails offer a more advanced hiking experience, as they are the more intense segments of the West Point Lakeside Loop.

The star of your trip, West Point Lake offers an expansive playground for aquatic enthusiasts. Whether you’re zipping across the water with a tube in tow, casting your line in one of the lakes many coves, or just want to enjoy a leisurely cruise, West Point Lake has plenty of room for your adventures. With 34 boat ramps surrounding its 525 miles of shoreline, launching and docking your boat is easy. Popular spots include Pyne Road Park, Glass Bridge Park, R. Shaefer Heard Park, and Horace King Park.
West Point Lake is a true paradise for fishing enthusiasts. Its vast 26,000-acre reservoir is teeming with crappie, catfish, largemouth bass, and bream, with countless creeks and inlets providing prime fishing spots. For those who prefer shore fishing, the lake offers excellent bank fishing opportunities, including public fishing piers at McGee Bridge Park and Rocky Point Recreation Area. These piers provide easy access for anglers, whether you’re fishing by day or night under the covered docks.
