Hiker’s Guide to Troup County

It’s always a good time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors! What better place to do that than in beautiful Troup County, Georgia! One of the best ways to get outdoors is to go hiking. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or not, there are many great trails to explore throughout West Georgia.

Oakfuskee Trail System

The multi-use Oakfuskee Trail System provides beautiful views of West Point Lake, and is accessible to equestrians, mountain bikers, trail runners and hikers alike!

Hogansville Tower Trail

The Tower Trail is located just behind Hogansville Elementary and features the historic Hogansville Water Tower. The tower was built for the Hines Cannery in 1916 and was part of Hogansville’s first water system. Tower trail is the perfect place to enjoy beautiful outdoor Georgia as you explore a piece of Hogansville history!

West Point River Park Trail

Following the Chattahoochee River in beautiful West Point, this trail is great for runners and walkers alike! At just above 3 miles, the trail guides along the river and through the woods. There’s even a small wooden bridge for an optimal viewing experience! This trail is perfect for experienced hikers and new hikers due to its moderately level pathway.

West Point Lakeside Trails

At just over 6 miles, this loop trail is another great one to take for new hikers! This trail is great for not only hiking, but fishing and mountain biking too! For its namesake, the trail goes along a lake and even leads to the lake for entry. This trail is perfect for springtime with flowers all along the pathway. The land and lake views of this trail make it such an incredible experience for any hiker, even if you’ve already experienced the trail in the past. For an extra beautiful experience, we recommend venturing out on this trail on a sunny day.

Granger Park Trail

A subset of LaGrange’s Thread Trail System, Granger Park Trail is a bite-sized walking trail perfect for beginners. While it may not be considered a typical hiking trail, it would be a great trail to train on before tackling longer trails or for getting outdoors to clear your head for a brief time. This trail is flat and surrounds a beautiful pond. It is a paved, mostly level trail that is perfect for walking, running, or biking.

Pine Mountain Trail

If you’re looking for a fun trail with various routes to explore, take a hike on the Pine Mountain Trail! In neighboring Harris County, this 23-mile trail consists of one main trail with varying connecting loops that intertwine with the Pine Mountain ridge. With the peaceful woods surrounding you, sparkling streams, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks, you’re bound to see plenty of beautiful West Georgia on this hike!

Dowdell’s Knob Loop: Pine Mountain Trail

If you’re looking for a fun trail with various routes to explore, take a hike on the Pine Mountain Trail! In neighboring Harris County, this 23-mile trail consists of one main trail with varying connecting loops that intertwine with the Pine Mountain ridge. With the peaceful woods surrounding you, sparkling streams, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks, you’re bound to see plenty of beautiful West Georgia on this hike!

These trails are all in good proximity to Troup County, so you can do one or more during a weekend trip! Want to bring your furry friend along?
